Four countries have seen Netflix take action against password sharing

Netflix has made a significant advancement in its password crackdown by releasing instructions for four nations.

Netflix has outlined its strategy for distributing passwords in four more countries. Due to the widespread practice of customers sharing passwords, the streaming behemoth has struggled with losses. A new update on password sharing and who is permitted to do so without harming the company’s operations has, however, been provided by Netflix.

According to a recent announcement from Netflix, customers will have more control over who has access to their accounts. The password-sharing limitations, which were previously being tested in Latin America, will now be implemented in four other nations, including Canada, New Zealand, Portugal, and Spain, according to the streaming giant.

“We’ve always made it easy for people who live together to share their Netflix account with features like profiles and multiple streams. While these have been hugely popular, they’ve also created confusion about when and how you can share Netflix. Today, over 100 million households are sharing accounts — impacting our ability to invest in great new TV and films,” Netflix said in a blog post.

According to Netflix, customers will now be able to select their primary location, control account access and devices, move profiles, and add an additional member.

Customers of Netflix will be able to designate a primary location, allowing everyone in their home to access their account. Members may use the new Manage Access and Devices tab to control who has access to their accounts with the streaming giant. Additionally, users can migrate their profiles on Netflix. A user’s profile can now be simply transferred to a new account that they pay for, maintaining their saved games, My List, tailored recommendations, and watching history.

On their own devices or by logging into a new TV, such as one found in a hotel or vacation home, members of the same household can still effortlessly watch Netflix.

In addition, users in many countries (including Canada, New Zealand, Portugal, and Spain) can add an extra member sub-account for up to two people they do not live with for an additional CAD$7.99 per person per month, NZD$7.99 per person per month in New Zealand, Euro 3.99 per person per month in Portugal, and Euro 5.99 per person per month in Spain. Each account comes with a profile, personalised recommendations, login, and password.

“A Netflix account is intended for one household and members can choose from a range of plans with different features (see chart below). As always, we’ll refine these new features based on member feedback so that we continue to improve Netflix in the years ahead,” the company wrote in a blog post
