Ford CEO teases sportier F-150 Lightning concept

Ford CEO Jim Farley teased a high-performance concept version of the electric pickup truck F-150 Lightning.

Farley posted a photo of himself and Red Bull Racing F1 test driver Daniel Ricciardo pulling back the truck cover, revealing a Lightning headlight. The truck differs slightly from the Lightning pickup that is currently in production. It appears to be a lowered vehicle with a front fender that resembles a Ford Raptor.

Ford recently announced a historic agreement with Red Bull Racing that will see the automaker return to Formula One for the first time in nearly 20 years in 2026. Formula 1 is an excellent platform for manufacturers to test new performance products, which is where the concept F150 Lightning fits in.

The concept car is part of a series of special performance demonstrator EVs being developed by Ford’s design studio. Previously, the automaker unveiled concept demonstrators such as a Mustang Mach-E with seven electric motors producing a total of 1,400 hp and an electric Ford Supervan with a massive 1,972 hp output.

In comparison, the production F-150 Lightning with the large 131-kwh extended-range battery pack produces 563 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque, with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of about four seconds.

It’s unclear whether this performance F150 Lightning will go into production, but more information should be available once Ford officially unveils the truck.
