Volvo Group has become the first truck manufacturer to introduce an Augmented Reality (AR) safety app for electric trucks, specifically designed to assist emergency personnel.

The purpose of the app is to provide immediate, essential information about the electric truck to the emergency response team on site, ensuring conditions are safe for rescue. In other words the app guides the first responders’ decision making and create a secure environment for successful rescue operations.

The app employs a mix of cameras, sensors, 3D modeling, and augmented reality overlays to offer an in-depth perspective of the vehicle.

The Emergency Response Guide app, which can be downloaded for free from both the Android and Apple stores, is compatible with all heavy electric truck brands under Volvo Group, including Volvo Trucks, Renault Trucks, and Mack Trucks.

The app supplies data on the positions of high-voltage cables, battery packs, and other crucial components, and also provides directions on how to safely disconnect the EV’s power supply in emergency situations.

Vincent Barnoux, AR Expert & Business Solution Engineer at Volvo Group, states that “the safety app has undergone testing in numerous real-world situations and has garnered positive reactions from first responders who have used it in actual sc enarios.”
