In a bid to eliminate dishonest contractors and unethical practices in the building and construction sector, NCA enables you to register, obtain a certificate, and receive certification.

The major purpose of the organization is to give supervisors, site workers, contractors, and builders a legal framework within which to operate.

Additionally, the authority oversees construction and building projects around the nation, assuring high-quality work and stopping projects that present a risk to public health or collapse.

Requirements for registration with NCA

Local contractors in Kenya are required to pay a fee of Kshs10, 000 – 50, 000 depending on the category in order to register.

Annual License renewal costs are valued at between Kshs5, 000 and Kshs10, 000.

You’re supposed to have registered as a legal company in the country either as a limited liability, sole proprietorship or a partnership company.

Technical directors of the registered company must have the minimal technical qualifications. They should have skills or possess experience in a field related to construction.

In addition, all the directors must also forward their CVs to the National Construction Authority.

The contractor applying to operate in Kenya must prove tax compliance.

Moreso, the bank account should be opened under name of the contractor’s company.

They are then issued with permission to operate for a specific period of time.

However, they are not allowed to undertake another project after the one specified or targeted is completed. They will also be required to launch an affidavit with the authority to confirm.

Foreign contractors must pledge to share skills with locals, as established from time to time by the National Construction Authority. They must also pay a registration fee of Ksh. 100,000 and only participate in bids they are awarded.

Those who apply for temporary registration must promise to subcontract “not less than 30% of the value” of the contract to local business owners.

In order to shield local contractors from foreign businesses, foreign contractors are not approved for the NCA1 category.
