OPPO‘s Reno Series has given emerging markets some of the best Android phones out there due to their stylish design, robust performance and one of the best in battery power technology.
A few days ago, TechMoran attended the launch of the OPPO Reno 12 series in Nairobi, Kenya where OPPO launched the OPPO Reno 12 5G and OPPO Reno 12F 5G both with great generative AI features and a robust camera system to give users tools that enhance creativity and productivity through AI.
The review unit we got at TechMoran is an OPPO Reno 12F 5G.

Design and Display
OPPO knows something about style and design. Whether it was inspired by iPhone or not, the phone manufacturer makes sure its phones standout especially the Reno series. The OPPO Reno 12 F 5G has a great design and the Olive Green review unit we got looks sleek and stunning. At 163.1mm by 75.8mm by 7.76mm in size, the phone is slim, fits perfectly in my palm and is comfortable to hold. Because it’s slender, it fits perfectly in trouser pockets even for Jeans and tracksuits. The OPPO Reno 12F is feather light and weighs just about 187g.
The Olive Green color adds to the phone’s premium feel and the 6.67-inch flat panel OLED screen with an FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2400) and 2100 nits at peak brightness, the display is bright and visible enough during day under direct sunlight or at night during less light. With 16.7 million colors (8-bit), the screen is rich enough for media consumption, office productivity and gaming.
The phone also has a 120Hz Smart Adaptive Screen which makes it easy on the eyes with smooth, bright, and low blue light which makes it easy on the eyes. The AGC DT Star2 is the most advanced and the strongest, boasting its premium resistance glass which gives the phone ultimate durability. OPPO Reno 12F 5G also has inbuilt intelligent eye care, Bedtime Mode for a more comfortable viewing experience, Smart Backlight to adjust screen brightness depending on your environment, as well as AI Brightness which automatically brightens your screen when the sun’s out so you can see more easily. The phone also comes with All-Round Amour for protection against physical damage such as crashes and it offers IP64 water and dust resistance so the phone is not easily affected by water and dust.
The phone’s back come with a Cosmos Ring design with its cameras standing out while the Halo Light in the camera module lighting effects are diverse to match your music, calls, charging, notifications, and more.
Cameras
The main camera has 50MP with 5P lens supporting Auto Focus and open-loop focus motor, an Ultra-wide angle camera with 8MP and 5P lens and 2MP Macro camera wit 3P lens. The front camera has 32MP with 5P lens. TechMoran did take some pics and will share them below in a later review for comparison.
The ultra-wide-angle lens are for users who want to capture broad spaces such as landscapes or large groups while the macro lens is good for close-up shots and the most preferred when more adequate details are needed. We did take some photos in night mode and we shall compare them with those taken during the day too.
The front camera is a 32MP camera with 5P lens and is good for selfies, work video calls and facial security during calls or work meetings via video conferencing apps. It also has access to AI features to edit portraits, selfies and several other media.

Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 Energy SoC, 8 CPU cores and Mali-G57 MC2 1072MHz GPU, the OPPO Reno 12 F 5G is powered by a 5000mAh battery and 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The MediaTek processor handles everyday tasks with ease and gives the phone a smoother performance when in regular use. The 8 cores ensure better performance and increased energy efficiency, while the phone’s AI capabilities allow for smoother operations.The phone’s battery is also long lasting.
For music lovers, the Dual Stereo Speakers come with 300% Ultra Volume Mode allowing users to immerse into cinematic sound, getting a better gaming experience and more from their music.
Software
My version of the OPPO Reno 12 F 5G runs on Android 14-based ColorOS 14 which comes with smart and smooth experience, featuring a refreshing design, intuitive interaction, and various features that enhance productivity. The Smart Sidebar displays frequently used apps and tools for its users. It also has Smart Suggestions to track your activities and tasks on hand. Users can also drag and share images and text across screens on different devices. Users can switch between up to 28 apps or open another as others run in the background for up to 72 hours without lag in performance.
Battery and Charging
The Oppo Reno 12 F 5G comes with a 5,000mAh battery, which upon use can take a full day of usage on 5G on maximum phone use. The combination of a big battery and super-fast flash charge means users worry less about running out of charge during the day. The phone’s Trinity Engine also brings smooth running and low battery drain and increase energy efficiency.
The 5,000mAh battery also comes with a 45W SUPERVOOCTM Flash Charge for quick charging.
AI Features
OPPO Reno 12F 5G is also known as an AI phone among the Reno series. The phone is integrated with lots of AI features, to enhance users experiences and increase their productivity as the AI becomes mainstream.
