Apple iPhone’s 10th year anniversary comes up September and as history has always had it (more like a tradition), the “Big A” releases a new version of the iPhone, new version of the iOS, new iPads and MacBooks.
The company announced her new OS, the iOS 11, features and some of its capabilities at the WWDC 2017 event at San Jose, California… and we all were excited. So psyched up for the company to release the update but little did we know that the iOS 11 will also rob us of some things.
A new report emerging (though Apple had earlier warned) reveals that when any Apple device gets the iOS 11 update, all 32 bits applications on the device will cease functioning. And as Sensor Towers (an analytic firm) reports it, over a 180,000 apps will be affected.
Out of these over 180,000 apps, about 38,000 of them are games (which takes the majority) and the rest spread across all other categories.
This news is not only bad news to the iPhone or iPad user who may not get to play his favourite game anymore, software developers who have worked really hard to keep on improving their apps will have to take a break – wasted effort.
But really, I do not blame Apple. Why? Because the company had issued warnings to both app users and developers about the possibility of this happening. On opening any 32 bit app, a prompt warning users of the 32 bit app support discontinuation was always displayed. The prompt reads;
“This app will not work with future versions of iOS. The developer of this app needs to update it to improve its compatibility.”
Anyway, there’s no need to panic as this development my not affect you, or your device. Long as you don’t have any 32 bit app on your iPhone or iPad, you lose nothing. If you do, you may as well start uninstalling them this moment.

- Click on General
- Click on About
- Lastly, click Applications.
A list of 32 bit applications you have installed on your device will appear.
