During today’s launch of the Huawei Y311, Y511, Y611, and GR5mini into the local market, Huawei announced it had recorded over 250,000 smartphone sales in Kenya between January and June this year and aims to ship a similar number of smartphones by the end of the year.

According to Huawei’s Sales Director, most of the sales were realized from smartphones ranging between Kshs8,000 and Kshs20,000. Prices targeted at the youth market segment.

Devices in the Y and G series feature refined, elegant designs that highlight their beautiful high contrast displays with CPU boosting power up 100 percent, GPU performance up 125 percent, and power efficiency up 70 percent, features the youth are mostly interested in.

“The youth market in Kenya is untapped but has a great potential and as Huawei we will continue positioning our various products and services to this target group,”said Huawei Mobile Kenya Sales Director Dharmaraj Diwakar.

The company’s strategy is focused on embedding powerful features in the mid-range devices at an affordable price to accommodate consumers’ lifestyle. Diwakar noted that offering unique features on a device that are able to seamlessly fit within consumers’ lifestyle at an affordable price are key elements of Huawei Mobile’s marketing strategy in the mid range level.
