Introducing Kenya’s Mashinani TV | Using Tech to Inspire Change

mashinani1Mashinani TV, an online documentary channel in Kenya, aims to showcase the positive side of Kenya to the world by covering stories of youths doing good for their society, away from crime, drug abuse and unemployment.

Mashinani meaning local in Swahili showcases talent among youth across the region to bring to light untold stories of rich heritage and diversity and the contributions the youth are making in the society. The channel aims to showcase the positive aspects of the youth to change the perceptions people have against them.

“We are on a mission to inspire a hungry generation to the ideals of self-reliance and to celebrate local content through sustained generation of stories from our diverse cultures. Our vision is to use documentaries and multimedia to document, distribute and preserve our stories. We hope that our stories will help spur change and celebrate our heritage,” said the Kenya Fixer Agency Limited team, the documentary firm that runs Mashinani TV.

Using their experience in news gathering and television production, they expect to use the platform to connect the World to Kenya and East Africa at large. Mashinani TV also does multimedia training to nurture young talent among the regions youth.
