Nigeria’s ITCelebral Wants to Link ICT Pros & Students to Share Skills & Resources

nacossA new network for ICT professionals and students has been launched in Nigeria to help users meet members in the profession, showcase their skills and lern from each other.

The ICT Networking Hub know dubbed  ITCerebral  pronounced “Information Technology [IT]Cerebral (formerly known as Nacoss Connection) is focused to ICT students and professionals and aims to empower young ICT students and improve ICT professional skills by making the ICT industry competitive for the industry development.

Founded by Kennedy Yinusa, Steve Amire, Gabriel Adelaja, Richard Arogundade and Adekunle Alimi, the Lagos-based ITCelebral was created after considering Nigeria level of development towards global competition and studying ICT students activities in relation to global market for over 3 years (since 2011).

Speaing to TechMoran, Yinusa said, “Nigeria today, has high level of unemployment in ICT industry due to inadequate knowledge acquired by ICT graduates, postgraduates, and professionals. This environment will allow members to be part of the community to meet other professionals and relatively interested people from Nigeria, and other parts of the World.”

ITCerebral has a wide range of functionalities for professional groups from fields such as CCNA, Java, PHP, Python, Security, etc to follow and enhance their ICT careers. It also has a supports forum for each group. The forum serves as a general support point to ICT career challenges. It also has videos on technology innovations from professional organizations/groups such as TED Talks, Cisco, Microsoft, etc to serve and innovation encouragement for members. The Badges/Awards section is an automated achievement recommendation to appreciate members contribution in the community and serve as recommendation in career path, and a Webcast for delivery of ICT conferences (such as NCS, CPN, ISPON, EduNet Conference among others.

Yinusa says  they aim to expand by organizing more seminars in institutions and other countries to orientate students and are getting more team members to help carry out the networks various activities.

The platform still in beta went live February 5  and has already signed up 135 members while others are using the platform as visitors with an average of 1,200 visit per day, and over 52,800+ hits within 2-3 months of its existence.

And if suck at IT don’t worry, the platform welcomes every one who wants to learn.

“We put students into consideration, which absolutely welcome anyone without ICT background in becoming a member.The platform innovation has been designed to work through any level of member as there are resources for beginners, intermediate, and professionals. And mostly a support forum to work members through any ICT career choice(s),” says the founder.

In next 5 years, ITC wants to be a global platform and a go-to ICT networking environment to connect students and professionals from across the world, from all walks of life.
