SleepOut.com has been announced winner of the 2014 Startup Battle of the Cities (SBOC) at IdeaLab! – The Founders’ Conference in Germany.

SleepOut’s CEO Johann Jenson gave a presentation that focused mainly on the company’s growth and expansion while touching on the host country of Mauritius, with its awe-inspiring pristine sandy beaches, stunning landscape, amazing tropical weather, conducive business environment and growing startup ecosystem that makes it a favourable destination for techpreneurs.

“Coming from Africa, we did not expect to be able to compete on-level with European and American startups so we’re very much honoured to have been selected as winners at such a prestigious event so far from home,” SleepOut’s CEO Johann Jenson told TechMoran. “Hopefully this will help with our expansion and fundraising efforts, or even inspire more tech entrepreneurs to call this beautiful island home.”

SleepOut saw off 11 competitors including runners up Vintage which represented Chisnau, Pzartech representing Tel Aviv and Coindrum representing Dublin to win the coveted trophy. Other contestants in the competition included Cyclister, Terivu, Sprinkle, Trackduck and Roger Voice among others.

The prestigious school has produced several world-class alumni including Rocket Internet founder Oliver Samwer.

The competition is part of the IdeaLab! – The Founders Conference, an annual event that brings together ambitious students, young founders, seasoned investors and experienced entrepreneurs in an environment that promotes the exchange of ideas and networking.
