The electronic collection (eCollection) and payment platform for the Nigerian federal government will kick-off in government ministries departments and agencies (MDAs) and deposit money banks (DMBs) effective March 1,2015.
The platform is aimed at checking theft, diversion of collected revenue and all sorts of corrupt practices associated with revenue collection by an indigenous software Remita, developed by a Nigerian software company, SystemSpecs.
The eCollection platform is now connected to about 5,000 bank branches nationwide. The managing director, Systemspecs, John Obara, said that the new e-collection system will be a game changer on how governments, organizations and individuals collect funds.
“The eCollection makes it possible to make payments and have all the details of the transactions intact instead of just having the account details only,” he said.
He said the platform brings probity, accountability, transparency and efficiency in the collection of payments it in the public or private sector or both.
“You can imagine a government with about 1,000 MDAs and each of them have at least 10 accounts. Some of these accounts have positive balances while some have negative balances,” Obaro said.
