To date, broadband services in Victoria Falls have mostly been via ADSL links, WiMAX and cellular services such as CDMA and 3G/EDGE which offer speeds of no more than 512kbps.
Now both homes and businesses in Victoria falls Zimbabwe will soon benefit from a 100 mbps broadband connection after Liquid Telecom launched the latest expansion of its Fibre To The Home (FTTH) network that also includes data packages.
For home users, Fibroniks means people can use multiple devices at the same time with no buffering or delay and access enhanced home entertainment like video on demand decoders, smart TV and connected home security systems
Fibroniks also comes with a voice service, the most cost-effective landline phone in Zimbabwe, with 086777 numbers and free on-net calls.
With a permanent population of 35,000, Victoria Falls is home to many small businesses – restaurants, sightseeing, hotels, lodges, car services etc – which service tourists as well as the many business conferences hosted in the town.
Already, the company has laid fibre rings around Victoria Falls which provide multiple routes of redundancy. It is now starting to lay fibre to homes and businesses in the town over which the Fibroniks service will be offered by ZOL Zimbabwe, which is part of The Liquid Telecom Group. Fibroniks is already available in Harare.
The Fibroniks service enables people to participate in, and benefit from, the digital revolution. Unlimited data packages with speeds of up to 100Mbps mean that customers can access whatever they want, whenever they want, with a guaranteed fixed monthly price and with speeds that equal – and indeed exceed – those available in Europe and the US.
Fibroniks helps small and medium sized businesses to serve customers in a global market, trading worldwide without limits. It enables SMEs to utilise modern business tools to increase efficiency such as cloud-based services, online backups, video conferencing and OTT services.
The annual Innovation Africa Digital summit is taking place in the town this week attracting delegates from across Africa. Liquid Telecom is also providing extensive broadband connectivity for the summit with delegates able to access high-speed broadband at 150Mbps with a dedicated link full duplex.
Liquid Telecom’s CEO Nic Rudnick said “This is an exciting day for the people of Victoria Falls. Fibroniks is what we refer to as “The Real Internet”, a sophisticated superfast service which transforms how people access and share information. A Fibroniks connection provides endless possibilities for everyone using it and will revolutionise how homes and businesses are connected to the rest of the world.
