The Huawei Mate series represents the company’s most high powered and longest lasting battery smartphones. This year, Huawei partnered with Jumia to launch two devices, they include Mate 10 and the Mate 10 Pro. Apart from their signature ultra-performance and battery life, Huawei doubled down on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to build a device that adapts to your surroundings.

Derrick Alenga, Retail Manager Huawei Kenya, Adam Lane Senior Director Public Affairs Huawei and Velma Delila use the Huawei Mate 10 Phone during the launch of the Mate 10 series into the Kenyan market.

Last year, AI was used in the Mate series to ensure that the performance of the device gets better over time by learning and giving priority to apps and services that the owner uses most often. This time round, the series come with an integrated NPU (Neural Processing Unit), the first of its kind on android. It will enable the Kirin 970 processor to have 25x better performance and 50x greater energy efficiency for AI-related tasks compared to similar processors lacking the NPU. AI will be used in many aspects of the device including photography (bokeh effect, real time scene recognition and zooming), battery management, and smart tasks triggered by your surroundings such as giving you a shortcut to the flashlight when device realizes you are in a dark environment with your phone on your hand.

Nakhulo Khaimia, Marketing Manager Huawei Device, Derrick Alenga, Retail Manager Huawei Kenya and Sanaz Abaie Head of Category for Mobile and Tablets Jumia Kenya showcase the Huawei Mate 10 series during its launch in the Kenyan market.

The Mate 10 series will share most of the features such as a dual rear camera tuned by Leica, a leading German high end camera manufacturer. It will be a 12MP dual sensor, one of which will be monochrome (black and white) to assist in low lit photography. The sensor has a f/1.6 aperture which is the widest available on phones right now and one which contributed to the super high score the Mate 10 Pro got on DxO Mark rankings. The two devices will also share the Kirin 970 CPU with the dedicate NPU as well as the all new Mali G72 12-core GPU that has appeared first on the Mate 10 series. Lastly, the 4000mAh battery will be packed on both devices as well including the fast SuperCharge feature with AI battery management. Both run on Android 8.0 Oreo sitting under the EMUI 8.0.
