Telegram launches video calling feature on Android and iOS

Cloud-based mobile and desktop messaging app, Telegram has launched a one on one video calling feature on iOS and Android that will now let you enjoy one on one time with those closest to you.

The video calling feature supports picture in picture mode, giving users more freedom to multitask even when calls are ongoing. It also end-to-end encrypted, while on the app, you can compare the four emoji shown on-screen for you and your chat partner – if they match, your call is 100% secured by time-tested encryption.

Besides the launch of the video calling feature, Telegram has also added another batch of animated emoji’s for its users as it marks seven years of existence.

Telegram also says it will add a group video calling feature in the coming months including other improved features

Through a blog post, Telegram described the significant growth from just a small messaging focused app to over 400m users Including being among the top most downloaded apps in the world.

Introducing the video calling feature at this time is just advantageous to the company while also giving users more options to pick on during video calling app selection.

The company says “2020 highlighted the need for face-to-face communication, and our alpha version of video calls is now available on both Android and iOS. You can start a video call from your contact’s profile page, and switch video on or off at any time during voice calls. Like all other video content on Telegram, video calls support picture-in-picture mode, allowing you to scroll through chats and multitask while maintaining eye contact”

Telegram also says the app has a reproducible build hence lets anyone verify encryption and confirm that their app uses the exact open-source code as Telegram.
