Jumia, Airtel partner to enable mobile payments

Jumia and Airtel Kenya have partnered to allow Airtel Money users to pay for their Jumia purchases using the mobile money service.

Jumia Head of Financial Services, Nelly Movine, said, “Millions of Kenyans rely on mobile money daily to make fast payments. By expanding our payment options to include Airtel money, it will make it easier for more consumers to incorporate online shopping as part of their daily transactions.”

The move is aimed at enhancing jumia’s contactless delivery initiative launched earlier this year to protect buyers and delivery persons from Covid-19. Buyers are urged to avoid cash payments.

Airtel Kenya MD, Prasanta Das Sarma, says, “We are delighted to be working with Jumia on this exciting partnership to enhance customer experience on the Jumia platform. We are committed to working with partners who are instrumental in promoting financial inclusion through our Airtel money services. This partnership will allow Airtel customers to shop conveniently online by using their Airtel Money wallet from wherever, at whatever time using their data-enabled devices.”

Kenya joins Ghana and Uganda to pick up Airtel Money as a payment option on Jumia’s e-commerce platform.

In other news, Jumia recently intoroduced new pick-up stations across Ghana to accelerate speed of deliveries and save costs for buyers.
