To challenge ChatGPT, Elon Musk has launched his highly anticipated artificial intelligence startup called xAI.

Although he co-founded OpenAI, the company responsible for ChatGPT, in 2015, he stepped down from its board in 2018.

According to reports by Reuters, the billionaire entrepreneur who is the Chief Executive Officer of (CEO) of Tesla, SpaceX and owns Twitter assembled a team of engineers from major US technology companies, which he aims to rival in his quest to develop an alternative to ChatGPT.

Mr Musk, who will lead the startup has previously raised concern about AI regulations, citing its development should be controlled as it poses potential risks of “civilizational destruction.”

During the launch of the new firm, he highlighted plans for creating a safer AI.

“Instead of directly programming morality into xAI, he intends to build a “maximally curious” AI, aiming for a deep understanding of the universe as a means of enhancing AI safety. Musk believes that this approach will inherently prioritize humanity over non-human entities due to the inherent fascination of humanity,” Reuters reported.

The entrepreneur forecasted that in the next five to six years, superintelligence, AI surpassing human intelligence will emerge.

Before the debuts of Bard and Bing AI, generative AI attracted considerable interest with the November 2016 release of OpenAI’s well-known chatbot ChatGPT.

Dan Hendricks, who will lead the xAI team, is the head of the Center for AI Safety, which focuses on hazards associated with AI.

The xAI website states that while Musk’s new business is independent of X Corp, it will work closely with Twitter, Tesla, and other businesses.

In the San Francisco Bay Area, xAI has declared its goal to hire qualified engineers and researchers.
