Threads, the text-based micro-blogging platform, is set to roll out its highly anticipated “Following Tab,” revolutionizing users’ feeds with chronological content exclusively from the accounts they follow.
Since its recent launch, users have clamoured for this feature, as it offers a significant enhancement over the previous single feed, which indiscriminately displayed posts from both followed and unfollowed accounts, causing frustration among users. To access the all-new “Following” feed, update Threads to the latest version. With a quick tap on the Threads logo, users can effortlessly switch between the “For You” and “Following” tabs, customizing their preferred feed.
The decision to introduce this update comes in response to declining user engagement on Threads, despite its remarkable achievement of amassing 100 million users in five days during its record-breaking launch week.
Acknowledging the decreased daily active users and interactions, Meta, the platform’s parent company, appears to have taken heed of user feedback. Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, reaffirmed this approach, stating, “Ask and you shall receive,” when responding to a user’s request for the “Following” feature on Threads.
In addition to the “Following Tab,” Threads is introducing a range of other new features based on user feedback, including an intuitive “Follow” button and the ability to approve follow requests for private accounts. The latest update also brings improvements to notification filtering and offers translations for enhanced accessibility.
While Threads initially posed a significant challenge to Twitter, now rebranding to X, experts see that there is still much work to be done on the platform. With new players like TikTok also embracing text-based posts, the text-based social media landscape continues evolving, presenting opportunities and challenges for Threads to maintain its competitive edge.
