Xiaomi’s first electric car gets over 100,000 orders

Xiaomi, renowned for its extensive range of electronic devices, has made a remarkable entry into the electric vehicle (EV) market with the unveiling of its first-ever electric car, the SU7 sedan. The response has been nothing short of extraordinary, with over 100,000 registrations and 40,000 non-refundable deposits placed by eager customers, indicating the potential for a blockbuster success in the EV segment.

Founder Lei Jun personally attended the initial round of SU7 deliveries at the company’s production facility in Beijing, expressing confidence that the era of smart cars has begun, foreseeing the emergence of a company in China comparable to Tesla.

The SU7 lineup comprises three variants: the standard model, the long-range Pro edition, and the performance-oriented Max version. Prices start at approximately €27,810 for the base model and €38,700 for the top-tier Max version, offering competitive pricing compared to established rivals. Additionally, Xiaomi has introduced a limited run of 5,000 Founders Edition vehicles at an attractive grand opening deal. Deliveries of the Founders Edition are already in progress, while other variants are scheduled to hit the roads by late April or May.

With its sleek and aerodynamic design, the SU7 presents a compelling package, emphasizing ample interior space and incorporating Xiaomi’s expertise in technology. Intelligent chassis control algorithms ensure both sporty dynamics and luxurious comfort, while extensive connectivity features allow seamless integration with Xiaomi devices plus other android smartphones and support for Apple products too.

The SU7’s debut signals the entry of a formidable new player into the fiercely competitive EV market. The surge in orders underscores the vehicle’s appeal, raising expectations for Xiaomi to swiftly scale up production to meet demand and avoid potential customer dissatisfaction due to prolonged delivery times.
