New reports from Toyota indicate that the automotive giant is integrating a system co-developed with Huawei and Momenta into its vehicles worldwide. This collaboration is set to drive advancements in safety features and automation capabilities.
The plan involves Huawei supplying the hardware infrastructure while Momenta contributes the software expertise. Toyota retains authority over the user interface, making final adjustments and managing the integration process.
The primary goal of this partnership is to enhance driver-assist technologies, with a long-term vision of elevating Toyota’s vehicle lineup to higher levels of autonomy. An official announcement is expected at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show, scheduled to take place from April 25 to May 4, 2024. This event marks the return of the exhibition after a four-year hiatus, having been canceled in 2022 due to Covid-related concerns.
Earlier collaborations between Momenta and Toyota have focused on providing high-definition maps and updates using camera vision technology, with the aim of advancing Toyota’s Automated Mapping Platform (AMP) in China. Toyota’s involvement in Momenta’s Series C funding round totaling $500 million in March 2021 further solidified their partnership, with Toyota contributing as one of the lead investors, bolstering Momenta’s financial resources.
Previously, Toyota and Huawei collaborated primarily in the smart cockpit sector. The latest ninth-generation Camry, launched recently for the Chinese market, features the vehicle system jointly developed by Toyota and Huawei, showcasing their ongoing partnership and technological advancements in automotive technology.
