Cultivating Kenyan Tech Talent for a Decade

Seeds for the Future programme isn’t new to Kenya. For the past nine years, the program has been a cornerstone of Huawei’s commitment to corporate social responsibility in the country.

Over 240 Kenyan students have benefited from virtual training sessions, gaining valuable ICT knowledge and skills. For a select few (47), the program went beyond the virtual, offering an incredible opportunity to travel to Huawei’s headquarters in China.

There, they immersed themselves in Chinese culture while getting firsthand exposure to the latest advancements at the forefront of technology.

To be eligible, one needs a strong academic record (GPA of 3.0 or above, or ranking in the top 30% of your faculty) and a demonstrated interest in telecommunications and technological advancements.

It’s important to note that participation doesn’t guarantee future employment with Huawei. However, the program offers incredible benefits:

This joint initiative by Huawei and Kenya’s ICT Authority is a fantastic opportunity to jumpstart your career in the exciting world of technology.

Generallly, this initiative selects promising young minds from around the world for short-term training programs, global competitions, and ongoing alumni activities focused on digital technologies.

Seeds for the Future” aims to bridge the gap between countries and cultures while nurturing the skills of future tech leaders. Participants gain exposure to cutting-edge advancements through seminars and discussions with industry experts. They also get hands-on experience, allowing them to put theory into practice.

The program embraces diversity and inclusivity as core values. They strive for at least a third of participants to be female students, promoting equal opportunities in the tech sector.

“The initiative also goes beyond technical knowledge. The program instills the value of sustainability through visits to green technology companies. It also fosters an entrepreneurial spirit by encouraging participants to develop solutions with real-world commercial potential.”

Graduates of the program become part of a thriving alumni community. This network provides ongoing support and opportunities for collaboration, fostering a lifelong connection with Huawei and the global tech scene.
