Kenya’s Ministry of tourism and wildlife is set to partner with China-based Alibaba Group through its cloud-computing arm. The two entities will collaborate to develop a suitable strategy for the deployment of cloud computing technology to help in wildlife protection in Kenya.

The initial phase of the collaboration project is expected to take place in a section of the Tsavo National Park.

This is the first step taken as a direct result of the partnership between Alibaba and the Kenyan Government. The project will involve heavy utilization of a wide range of features connected to Alibaba’s Cloud IoT platform.

Some of the technologies to be considered include animal tracking sensors, infra-red trap cameras, smart weather stations, ranger devices, and wide-area drones. These will enable the collection of real-time data of the movements and general health of the animals.
