Just last week, foodpanda/hellofood acquired Brazilian competitor Jánamesa, following similar moves in Asia (Singapore-Dine) and Eastern Europe (Ételvitel KFT Hungary) earlier in the year. Rocket Internet’s hellofood has operations across Africa and is continually signing up restaurants in the continent’s cities to use its portal and delivery services to increase their sales.
According to Peter Varga, Co-Founder and Managing Director foodpanda Czech Republic, “We are taking a big step in entering another fast emerging market in the Czech Republic. I believe that our ability to move fast in capturing new markets is one of our biggest competitive advantages, and I am sure we will be proven right very soon in the Czech Republic.”
In Brazil, where foodpanda operates under the brand name hellofood, the company today announces the takeover of MegaMenu (megamenu.com.br). The operations of MegaMenu are centered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s second largest metropolitan area. MegaMenu’s 200 restaurants and 4,000 users will be integrated into www.hellofood.com.br.
Marcelo Ferreira, Co-Founder and Managing Director hellofood Brazil: “Hellofood is now providing the most comprehensive food delivery coverage in Rio de Janeiro. For MegaMenu’s users, the migration to our platform will be a seamless process and will also allow them to place orders via the hellofood mobile apps.”
Ralf Wenzel, Co-Founder and global Managing Director foodpanda: “This is a proud day for us. The two most recent acquisitions in Brazil show that we assert ourselves against local competition. At the same time, we are following through with our international rollout to satisfy global demand, as in the Czech Republic. We have earned our place as the top food delivery platform worldwide.”
