Rocket Internet’s Jumia Partners With Egypt’s Mobile Service Firm Mobinil

JUMIALOGORocket Internet-backed Jumia Egypt has today partnered with Mobinil, the Egyptian company for mobile services in a move that will see Jumia provide Mobinil with products and services in their 140 retail stores spread all across Egypt.

According to Mattia Perroni, Co-Founder and Managing Director of JUMIA Egypt, “It is a pleasure for our organization to partner with one of the leading mobile service provider in Egypt. This is the beginning of a long term partnership that will lead to an increasing value for our customers.”

The partnership will also see Jumia offer products of Mobinil and telecom products such as Voice/Data lines, Broadband connectivity devices, smartphones, connectivity data bundles to its customers and also offer special gifts for Mobinil customers in the loyalty program. In return, Mobinil will provide Jumia offices and staff with the latest mobile technology solutions tailored for their business needs.

This announcement also marks Jumia’s one year anniversary celebration after launching in Egypt September 2012. After one year JUMIA Egypt has achieved a double digit growth on a monthly basis to reach a 35-40% market share in e-commerce. The company moved from two small offices in Maadi area to a 3-floor building with warehouse over a space of 1600 m² in “New Cairo” area.

According to Euromonitor, Egyptian consumers’ online transactions are expected to more than triple by 2016. Despite the overall penetration rate of e-commerce (3.4%) for the Egyptian population, spending online is going to reach up to US$ 447.3 million.
