Tanzania Telecommunication Company Limited (TTCL), a state owned firm has, according to their local media, recovered just a third of the outstanding debt it is owned from public organisations and government departments.
Last year in October the Parliamentary committee ordered TTCL to ensure that the entire debt Tsh.10 billion ($6 million) was collected by the end of the year.
“TTCL should aim at providing excellent services in the country and not fail to operate because of debts. By December this year you have to either collect all the debts or disconnect services,” said the committee.
The CEO of the telecommunication company , Kamugisha Kazaura, said that he exercise was going on well and that they are working hard to ensure that they collect all the money.
He added that some of those debt could be dated back as long as six years.
