Multinational technology firm has rolled out smartphone models and set out to sign local distributors in a bid to win market share from leading tech giants Nokia, Samsung and LG.
Among the new gadgets launched are entry level V795 and ZTE open 11 mini which runs on firefox operating system. The firm has worked with telecommunications companies; Telkom Kenya and Airtel which also stock rivals’ handsets.
“We are looking at the opportunities created by the expansion of internet infrastructure such as the 3G and the envisaged 4G already we are seeing a shift where users prefer smartphones and tablets compared to personal computers.” Said Mark Jin, ZTE’s sales director for Kenya and Somali.
The phones will retail between sh4,500 and 5,160 the other three mid-tier smartphones the BladeLZ, KIS 3 and Lubia Z5S retailing at up to 25,800.
With the increased population with mobile phones, the company’s target is the middle class who have a variety to pick from and will enjoy 3G network as well as social networking with the increasing mobile data subscription which has maintained the largest share 99 per cent of total internet subscriptions.
