There are 4.5 billion people at the base of the economic pyramid (BOP) in 92 developing countries and emerging markets and they form a significant market for consumer goods including health products worth $5 trillion (measured in 2005 purchasing power parity (PPP) dollars). Health products and services alone account for approximately $243 billion globally.
