airtelAirtel Kenya’s human resource team set up a stand at JKUAT last week to interview and select a group of students from the University for a three month internship opportunity at Airtel, this was during the Airtel Kenya sponsored-Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) annual Students Career Fair.

The event themed “Nurturing careers for sustainable economic development” was held from 11th to 13th June 2014 at the University’s main campus in Juja sought to provide career advise and inspiration to the students.

Airtel staff were also at the event to inspire students, answer questions, provide more information about their professional qualifications and share insightful knowledge, tips and tricks that will empower the students on their career growth.

In a statement Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi said: “Airtel Kenya is delighted to be taking part in the careers fair for the second year running. Our participation is an indication of our commitment to offer career development opportunities to young Kenyans. The career fair offered our employees the opportunity to connect with the students, pass on their knowledge and experience and share opportunities for training and development to the next generation.”

While expressing his appreciation on Airtel’s support and participation at the career fair, the Vice Chancellor of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Prof. Mabel O. Imbuga said that it is inspiring for the students to interact with employees who have firsthand experience, as well as potential employers as they prepare for the job market. Prof. Imbuga further said that she is impressed by Airtel’s youthful representation, which gives the students hope that they can also make it to some of the big companies in the country if they remain dedicated and determined in their courses.

This is not Airtel’s first such initiative. In March this year, the firm participated in a Career Fair organized by the University of Nairobi’s Faculty of Arts (NUARSA) Students representatives at the University of Nairobi (UoN), Main Campus.  Airtel intends to continue with such programs to forge ties with learning institutions and present employment and training opportunities for the Kenyan youth.
