KCB’s MeCash Joins the Growing Family of Kenya’s Prepaid Cards

Visa-debit-card-and-credit-card-e1309541715531The Kenya Commercial Bank Group has partnered with Visa Inc to launch MeCash, a prepaid card for KCB users  to make payments anywhere to allow users go cashless, manage their finances and conveniently shop at all Visa-enabled Physical or online retail points globally.

According to KCB Business Officer and Managing Director Mr. Samuel Makome, “The new KCB MeCash prepaid card which is Visa enabled is based on EMV chip technology, allows users to manage their finances by eliminating the need to carry cash, while enjoying the convenience of shopping any Visa-enabled physical or online retail points.”

KCB partnered with Visa for security, accessibility and convenience. KCB MeCash users will have to load it with cash then pay for goods and services anywhere globally. Visa also recently partnered with Airtel and Chase Bank to issue the Airtel Money Visa Card to allow users load money and pay for goods and services on the go.

Other similar offerings in the country include Nakumatt Global-which runs on MasterCard technology, NationHela which runs on Visa and Diamond Trust Bank, SafariCard powered by I&M Bank and Safaricom and various others.

Visa Country Manager Jabu Basopo concluded: “We see one of the most valuable contributions we can make as helping to bring more people into the formal financial system. We do so by creating pathways to financial inclusion for the financial underserved through our products, services, technology and payments and our strategic partnerships.”
