Equity Bank has launched its Eazzy 24/7 in Tanzania with the service accessible through Zantel, Airtel, Vodacom and Tigo.

The mobile phone banking platform allows users to access banking services via mobile phones. It also allows customers to perform several transactions such as bill payment for DStv, funds transfer, airtime top-up and buying luku, which means buying pre-paid electricity coupons and checking bank account balance.

Speaking at the event, Joseph Iha, the MD of Equity Bank Tanzania stated: “The launching of Eazzy 24/7 will mean that users can be able to transact anytime, anywhere in a convenient manner since the banking facilities can be accessed through mobile phones. The innovation that we have unveiled is in line with our commitment to make banking services affordable and available for our customers.”

According to Iha, it has been a great challenge to take banking services closer to the people and Eazzy 24/7 will help lower transaction costs thus greatly improving the payment system.

“The growth of mobile phone use has established a strong base for affordable banking while the growth of mobile phone solutions in rural areas within Tanzania shows that it can attract many customers,” added Iha.

The introduction of Eazzy 24/7 implies that customers can now use their mobile phones to transfer cash into each other’s account.
