Approximately 3.7M of the world’s 10.5M mobile industry jobs are in Sub-Saharan Africa

Graph1.42The mobile ecosystem’s economic contribution (% of GDP) is highest in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), contributing 6% of GDP (2012) and poised to reach 8% by 2020 – this is in comparison to 4% and 1.4% of GDP in Latin America and Asia Pacific (2012). SSA accounted for 37% (3.3M people, 2012) and approximately 35% (3.7M people, 2013) of direct employment by mobile network operators (MNOs) globally and the figure is poised to reach 6.6M by 2020. MNOs further contributed US$21B (2012) to SSA’s public funding through licencing fees and taxes. Read more here..
