Being a woman in the workplace is already challenging enough but being a woman in the tech industry seems almost impossible.
However, Dorcas Muthoni begun her journey when she was only 24 and since then she unlocked new opportunities in Kenya. She is the founder and CEO of a specialist computer software company known as Openworld Ltd. Openworld is not your ordinary day to day software company, it is actually a leading e-Government and business software firm that is already widely used in Africa. It is currently used in all 54 African stated since it’s an application that is used by the African Union. In Kenya it is used by our Government as the Performance Management System for the Government of Kenya which really helps out in the pubic sector.
Dorcas’s journey begun in her early 20’s.
Her passion was always to help by innovating using technology. She started out by building networks for universities, she was one of the first female engineers in Kenya. She begun building her own startups in 2004 where she founded an organization called AfChix for women and Openworld a software for e-government. The software took off while AfChix took off and even became a leading women startup. It encouraged young Kenyan women to join computer engineering careers which is what really led Dorcas to train many women in other African countries.
