Late last month Huawei Mobile launched its Huawei Y9 (2019) smartphone for the Kenyan market. This was Huawei’s biggest media and public launch yet in the Kenyan market,with hopes to grow the phone manufacturers’ market share among Kenya’s growing middle class.
The HUAWEI Y series is known for its powerful battery life, delicate appearance and seamless user experience. Targeting the “Young and Excellent” , the Huawei Y9 2019 is the firm’s “Entry-level Flagship Phone” and comes with an upgraded CPU, both front and rear dual cameras, and the notched HUAWEI FullView Display to the entry-level models for the first time.
The phone comes with a notched 6.5-inch HUAWEI FullView Display with 3D curved design and is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core processor. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Huawei Y9 (2019) packs a 13-megapixel primary camera plus a 2-megapixel secondary camera on the rear. While on the front, it packs a 16-megapixel primary camera plus a 2-megapixel secondary camera. Both the front and rear cameras are integrated with AI photography technology to produce more stunning selfies and more professional photos.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. Sensors on the phone include Fingerprint sensor, Compass/ Magnetometer, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer and Ambient light sensor. The unit is powered by a 4000mAh battery for a long lasting user experience and features 4GB of RAM with 64GB internal storage.

OPPO F9 Pro smartphone packs a 6.3 inch FHD display with the beautifully designed water drop notch. It is powered by the Mediatek MT6771 Helio P60 chipset and runs on Android v8.1 Oreo with ColorOS 5.2 on top. The F9 Pro features 6GB of RAM with 128GB internal storage. This makes it superior over the Huawei Y9 2019 which comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage. This unit is however powered by a slightly smaller battery a capacity of 3400mAh. The OPPO F9 Pro supports VOOC Flash Charging technology. It has an impressive 25MP selfie camera, facial recognition feature and a fingerprint scanner located on the rear.
Samsung Galaxy J6 Plus was unveiled together with the Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus in September, 2018. It features a 6.0 inch IPS LCD elongated display with 720p resolution and has the Snapdragon 425 quad-core 1.4GHz processor. This phone is available in 3GB & 4GB RAM with 32GB & 64GB internal storage space respectively. It features an 8MP selfie camera accompanied by an LED flash. The phones dual rear camera system has a 13MP lens with f/1.9 aperture and 5MP lens for depth sensing. Samsung Galaxy J6+ comes with a fingerprint scanner mounted on the side on the power key. Unlike the Huawei Y9 2019 and OPPO F9 Pro which have rear mounted fingerprint sensors.
