How to Combine Work and Study

To get a good job, you need to have the experience for which it is necessary to work. So where should you start? Students are looking for employment to continue studying, gain independence from their parents, or prove to themselves that they are worth something. As it often happens, not all dreams come true. How to learn if you have a busy schedule? Is it possible to find a balance?

What Is More Important?

Naturally, not all lecturers will be glad that you found a job. Of course, many of them will welcome your desire to gain financial independence and practical skills. Others, sincerely convinced that a student should only learn, will be against your additional occupation. Most often, professors will not interfere with the free timetable of visits if your knowledge and performance are not in doubt. Remember that they are not going to adapt to your timing but can make some concessions to you in terms of attendance.

This does not mean that a loyal evaluation system will follow; and some lecturers, on the contrary, are strict towards employed students. Therefore, you need to prepare well for tests, exams and submit scientific papers on time. If you don’t have time to write good articles or abstracts, you can turn to your classmates for help or to specialized resources, such as EssaysMatch.

One more golden rule, which should be clearly set aside in your mind: it is good to work, but diligent study at the university or college is a must. That is why it is important to select occupation according to the following criteria:

  • free schedule;
  • availability of days off;
  • timely payment.

Balanced Approach Is Important

There are a few arguments for and against having a job while studying.

Pros:

  • Own money. The most important moment, especially if parents live far away and are not able to transfer large amounts of money to a student.
  • Practice. If the work is somehow related to the specialty, this is a great chance to approach graduation with already accumulated practical baggage. If the employer agrees to hire a classman with no experience and you make a good impression, you will not have to be among the alumni who are going to look for a job.

Cons:

  • Inability to concentrate. Usually, there is no time to sleep and you can seriously harm your health. As a result, you do not only have enough time to do everything that you plan, but you can also find yourself in the hospital because of a nervous breakdown. Only a few people manage to combine work with studies without a threat to health.
  • Low payment. Even graduates of elite universities can’t always count on a good salary, what to speak of freshmen without experience and education. Even if you estimate the cost of an hour of work and calculate how much you can get per month, you should not rely on this figure.

The reason why you have decided to start working during studying is not so important, but you have to successfully cope with both of these activities, and one must not interfere with the other. You should choose from the very beginning what is more significant to you and what you will refuse from if circumstances change. For someone, there is a need to get a diploma, which will then allow them to work calmly and move up the career ladder. For others, employment and earning money may be a priority.
