AfroGuide is a review and recommendations service, that includes a five-point rating scale, allowing only one review per person of a restaurant that can be updated to reflect subsequent visits; after the user is logged in.

AfroGuide offers a restaurant search utility, with filtering by price, type of food, neighborhood, and special features (child-friendliness, smoking area, dance floor etc.)

With the growing popularity of EatOut‘s guides and traffic to restaurants, AfroGuide will have a hard time to gain premium market share like the one EatOut has enjoyed. Though restaurants are not fully working now, such platforms are still helpful because consumers still look up menus and order food online. Takeaways are the in-thing now due to COVID-19 restrictions but food is still an essential need to everyone and the platform will be of use.

Going live in these difficult times, AfroGuide is aiming to engage Kenyan millennials & expats sitting at home by pulling them to the platform and sharing their experiential happiness — whether it was dining out with someone special, chilling out with friends in a coffee shop or a bar or simply a family dinner in city’s eateries.

The platform aims to help users find great places for food and fun activities ina city that spends an estimated KES 90Bn on eating out. With more than 700 eateries to discover in Nairobi alone, the site aims to help its users pick out only the best ones.

AfroGuide is trying to solve the problem of lifestyle discovery answering questions such as What would you like to do this weekend? Where should we go for lunch? Which place has the best Ethiopian cuisine?
