If you send an email from your Gmail account, your display name (along with other information) will be displayed to the recipient. In a few steps, you can change the show name associated with your Gmail account. Here’s how it is.
You can only change the name of your Gmail account on your desktop browser. You can’t use your Android, iPhone, or iPad mobile app to change your name.
To change the name of your Gmail account, log in to your account via the Gmail website on your desktop browser.
When logged in, press the gear icon to open the “Settings” menu.
First, pick “See All Settings” from the top of the drop-down menu.
You will now be on the “General” tab of the Gmail Settings menu. Tap on the “Accounts and Import” tab.
You can see your email address and the show name associated with that address in the “Send Mail As” section. To change your show name, click the “Edit Info” button.
There will be a new window. Here you can change your display name by clicking on the bubble next to the text box, and then type the new display name in the text box. To apply the update, press “Save Changes.”
You can now see the newly entered show name next to the “Send Mail As” section of the Gmail Settings menu.
The next time you send a text, your new name will be revealed to the recipient. Although Google allows you to change your display name, you can’t change your username (which is different from your display name) or your email address. But if you just need a new email address, you can always change your Google account to a new one.
