Link Health Technology has secured R5-million investment funding from Cogitatio Technologies.
The biomedical engineering duo Daniel Rimbault and Abrie Coertze founded the startup in 2017.The creation of the healthtech startup was influenced by Abrie’s battle with cancer which made him experience challenges in the healthcare system. As Abrie was recovering, he worked on some of the core design concepts of the system hoping that he would bring the Link Health Technology platform to reality. This made him go back to specialize in Biomedical engineering at UCT. This is where the two founders met and continued with the same motive of bringing the idea to reality. Since then, the focus has been to provide patients with tools that enable them beware of their health state.
Founders Daniel Rimbault and Abrie Coertze created a distinctive software that provides a 360 view of the patient’s status and condition .The healthtech startup focuses on the biopsychological model which considers the interplay between a patient’s biological, psychological and social health. Psychological and social factors directly influence the treatment prognosis and outcome of a patient’s health condition.
64% of the healthcare professionals in South Africa do not have enough digital patient data that influences the patient outcomes. The same case applies for most patients who cannot find their medical records. This makes the health professionals provide narrow data and take much longer time when making informed decisions. This is not the case anymore as Link aims at creating electronic health records that provide complete health records which can be accessed even in the future.
With the creation of a mobile application, Link enables the acquisition, storage and processing of crucial data for patients. Doctors can gain access to a patient’s health status as well as provide patients with notified decisions when they come for a check-up or treatment. Among the other benefits of the application is that it handles the daily tasks of healthcare organizations which include setting up appointments and handling other administrative related activities.
When an individual suffers from a particular health condition, they normally feel like no one understands them. Link health Technology plans on creating a support network which will enable people with similar health related issues engage with the others who are suffering from the same health condition. In this way, these individuals will be able to share their experiences and encourage the other patients who feel discouraged.
Being backed up by Cogitatio Technologies, Link health technology will be provided with professional directors to their board. These professionals have skills and expertise in business development and academia thus being of great impact.
