European B2B startup accelerator and fund Startup Wise Guys has launched its first programme in Africa. The programme is presently operating in Namibia and has been jointly organized by Startup Namibia and Key2Investors.

The accelerator is Namibia’s first experience with an international startup accelerator and plans to bolster entrepreneurship in the African country. Startup Wise Guys focuses on launching an additional four programmes in Africa by 2022 with a strong focus on East and West Africa.

Founded in 2012, Startup Wise Guys runs acceleration programmes for early-stage B2B SaaS, fintech, cybersecurity, sustainability startups and has made more than 220 investments and already has two major exits.

Startup Wise Guys has been interested in Africa but distance and logistics made it difficult. The global pandemic forced Startup Wise Guys go digital with their programmes and that’s when they saw an incredible number of African startups interested in joining their programmes remotely.  Alongside with other partners, Startup Wise Guys is now able to offer on-the ground startup acceleration, supported and led through digital platforms.

The Namibian accelerator is a three month programme which concludes in June. Currently, the programme is supporting 24 local startup founders, with an emphasis on raising investment and the fundamentals of leading a venture-backed business.

Additionally, the accelerator is equipped with a range of experts in fundraising, sales, product development, finance, legal matters and marketing. These experts will share valuable insight with the selected participants empowering them to take their business to the next level.

The participants in the accelerator were chosen based on innovation, market size, growth potential and skills demonstrated in previous local programmes. Majority of the participants are in the areas such as agritech, legal tech and fintech.

Launched in 2020, Startup Namibia focuses on growing the country’s startup ecosystem and has run numerous programmes since its inception.
