Despite all the improvements that Samsung applies to the Galaxy Z Fold3, one of the things that most steal attention is probably the fact that the phone is the first phone from Samsung with the camera behind the screen. To make it happen, Samsung has to develop the panels display a new type.
Panel brand-new Samsung calls Eco2 OLED. As alleged, the label “Eco” in the name refers to its characteristics which are more power-efficient than the OLED panel is traditional. At the same time, the “2” represents the function of double, and this is all Samsung realized by eliminating a layer of the polarizer of the structure of the OLED screen.
In general, the manufacturers put a layer of polarizer between the OLED panel and glass screen to reduce the reflection of light from the outside while improving contrast. A layer of the polarizer is often colourless to slightly opaque (opaque) so that the OLED panel should emit a brighter light. As a result, there is extra power to be consumed.
Eco2 OLED, on the other side of utilizing the pixel structure that is unique to minimize the light reflection so that the layer polarizer was no longer needed. Since there was no polarizer, OLED panel so that you don’t need to work harder, Samsung believes this technique can save the power consumption by up to 25%.
Then what is power consumption more efficient with the camera technology at the bottom of the screen? The absence of a layer of polarizer increases light transmission by up to 33%. In theory, this means the light can enter the camera sensor behind the screen in the amount of more, which ultimately can be translated into the results of the photo or video is better.
Both technology, Eco2 OLED, can also help reduce plastic — which is contained in the polariser layer — and ultimately help preserve the Earth. So far, Eco2 new OLED can be found on the Galaxy Z Fold3, but Samsung already plans to use it in more products in the future.
