A few days ago, Hertz the rental car company ordered 100,000 Tesla Model 3 cars, one of the biggest electric vehicle deals ever. Now, reports are coming in shedding light to the plan they had with the order, they partnered with Uber to offer 50,000 Teslas for drivers to rent.
Uber started its rental options back in 2016 but with this Hertz partnership, the service is going to a whole new level. The taxi hailing giant has a Green Future Program, which will pay drivers $1 more per trip if they switch from a gas-powered vehicle to a zero-emissions one. These bonus earnings can add up to $4,000 more per year.
Drivers will be charged $334 to rent a Tesla at first. The amount will dip lower as more Teslas become available in the Hertz fleet. In addition, drivers will gain access to Tesla’s Supercharger network and Uber’s own discounts at EVgo stations.
For drivers to qualify to rent a Tesla, they must have a 4.7-star rating and complete at least 150 trips with Uber. The Teslas will be available from November 1st starting with Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Washington, DC. In the following weeks, Uber will then expand the program nationwide. You can also rent a Tesla for your personal use too at Hertz starting the same November date.
