A movie based on the Gran Turismo video game has been confirmed by Sony including the release date and plot information. The film will be based on the real-life story of a Gran Turismo player.
Neill Blomkamp will direct the film, which will be released on August 11th, 2023. The science fiction movies “District 9,” “Elysium,” and “Chappie” are among his earlier works. He has a reputation for being somewhat of a car enthusiast and has even directed an installment for the BMW short films series.
The Gran Turismo racing game series debuted in 1997 and doesn’t actually have a storyline or adaptable characters. It’s main focus is life like graphics and gameplay. Gran Turismo 7 for the PlayStation 5 was the most recent installment in the racing game series.
It is very likely that the film is based on a true story that Sony has dubbed “the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming abilities won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racing car driver.”
The GT Academy, which allowed Gran Turismo pros to compete to join a real-life racing team sponsored by Nissan from 2008 until its latest incarnation in 2016, is most likely the source material for the movie.
Sony PlayStation games aren’t new to box office success, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Uncharted – both of which were released this year – were so well-received that they currently claim the title of best video game adaptations ever made for the PlayStation.
