OPPO Kenya has launched the OPPO Reno 8T 5G in Kenya and the phone is a powerhouse of classic specs and features for your next phone experience.

Some of the distinctive features include a 120HZ curved 3D screen and a 108-megapixel camera for a levelled-up user experience.

Early this week, we did an unboxing video and first impressions of the device. We had a chance to do a full review of the phone and here are our detailed views on it.

OPPO Reno 8T 5G features

Display

The OPPO Reno8 T 5G is equipped with a 6.7-inch curved-edge AMOLED display with a 93% screen-to-body ratio. It also features a 120Hz refresh rate for ultimate visual and physical comfort. I found the screen to be quite colour accurate and bright enough to be used in almost any environment. It also has an adaptive eye protection system.

It also sports a 120Hz 3D curved screen. The curved edge of the display is easy on the hands while holding it.  Watching content on this display combined with stereo speakers gives you a good experience. The display also houses an in-display fingerprint sensor that is quite fast at authentication.

The Oppo Reno8 T 5G features a polycarbonate body and chrome side rails that do not attract fingerprint marks. The back panel has a superb finish though, that does not attract fingerprints. The coating also changes colour depending on which angle you look at it.

On the right side of the smartphone is the power button, while the volume buttons are on the left. The USB Type-C charging port, speaker grille, microphone and SIM tray are all located at the bottom of the smartphone.

On the top, we have another microphone for noise cancellation and an additional speaker for stereo sound. The smartphone uses a hybrid SIM slot, which means you can either use a second SIM card or a microSD card.

The phone is available in Sunrise Gold and Midnight Black colours with a crystal effect 3D back cover that reduces fingerprint appearance.

Camera

The Oppo Reno8 T 5G has a triple-camera setup at the back a 108-megapixel primary camera, a 2-megapixel depth-sensing camera, and it features a  Micro lens camera with a magnification level of 40X. This is by far the best feature of this smartphone.

The Microlens provides 40x magnification for exceptional detail offering exceptional detail for users when exploring the microscopic world beyond the naked eye.

The front camera features a 32-megapixel sensor that gives an upgraded photography experience throughout.  The clarity of the photos is great, portrait mode works well and the number of options to enhance your selfie is an added bonus.

The 108MP Portrait Camera, utilizes NonaPixel Plus binning technology and AI Portrait Super Resolution, capturing ultra-clear, high-resolution images in any scenario.

Beyond the Ultra-clear Imaging System, Reno8 T 5G offers a range of portrait features including Selfie HDR, Bokeh Flare Portrait, and Dual-View Video, enabling users to take professional-quality photos that showcase their personal style.

The main camera does a decent job in daylight but gives average photos in low light. You also don’t get an ultra-wide camera like in other modules.

The smartphone cannot record videos in 4K but you can still record them at 1080p.

Storage

The Reno8 T 5G is equipped with 8GB RAM, and 256GB of internal storage. It supports s up to 1TB SD card expansion and Up to 8GB of additional virtual RAM.

The all-around smoothness of the Reno8 T 5G is further complemented by OPPO’s self-developed Dynamic Computing Engine, which ensures a longer stable user experience under heavy computing loads.

On a Reno8 T 5G with 8GB RAM, up to 20+ apps can be kept running in the background at one time. This long-term fluency has passed the 48-Month Fluency Protection Test in the OPPO Lab.

The device also features OPPO’s self-developed Dynamic Computing Engine, which delivers a longer stable user experience for heavy smartphone users. age

Battery and performance

The Oppo Reno8 T 5G sports a 4,800mAh battery which offers a decent standby time. Even when you need to charge it, the bundled 67W SuperVOOC power adaptor fully charges the device in under 45 minutes.

Reno 8T  5G has adopted OPPO’s exclusive Battery Health Engine, which intelligently controls the charging current and voltage through real-time monitoring, to ensure the battery serves for an extended time.

The Oppo Reno8 T 5G is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 695 5G SoC. The mobile Platform provides efficient 5G performance, while the Dual Stereo Speakers and Ultra Volume Mode enhance sound quality and volume by 200%.

It also offers high bandwidth and low-latency connections that enable seamless productivity and entertainment. It is decent for light multitasking and gaming, but not great with graphics-intensive games.

The 8 T 5G runs Oppo’s ColorOS 13 which is based on Android 13.

Techmoran verdict

Overall, this is a good midrange phone for anyone who is camera and space conscious. It also comes in a premium body build design and a notably good battery life.

However, we would prefer a more powerful platform that would support graphic-intensive games.
