A subscription scheme similar to Twitter Blue called “Meta Verified” has been launched, according to Meta. Being verified on Facebook and Instagram is one of the key advantages of the Meta Verified subscription.

The blue tick that appears next to the names of users whose profiles have been verified over time has come to represent status. In order to help legitimate authors fight fake accounts, the subscription will also come with an extra security function. In Australia and New Zealand, the Meta Verified is now being tested for $11.99.

Following an identical move by Elon Musk at Twitter, CEO Mark Zuckerberg declared on Sunday that Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, will introduce a premium subscription service with a starting price of $11.99 per month that will allow users to verify their accounts. According to Mr Zuckerberg, Meta Verified would enable users to verify an account “with a government ID, get a blue badge, further impersonation protection against accounts pretending to be you, and direct access to customer support” this week in Australia and New Zealand.

Users will have to present a government ID in order to be verified on Facebook and Instagram, according to Meta in a blog post.

The advantages of Meta Verified include a verified badge, improved impersonation protection, better customer service, more visibility and reach, and exclusive features (stickers on stories). Contrarily, Meta’s Meta Verified subscription does not place a cap on advertising.
