How to File a Kenyan Insurance Claim.

There are two main types for insurance claims. Certain insurance claims may necessitate a police investigation, whilst other claims may be straightforward and not require police intervention. Police are involved in insurance claims related to theft, fire, burglary, accidents, injuries, malicious property damage, etc. Please be aware that it is your responsibility as an insured to notify the police right away of any losses resulting from such situations. After that, the police will take up the case and look into it to determine the actual cause of the loss (proximate cause) and whether or not the cause of the loss is covered.

As a policyholder, you are strongly encouraged to notify your insurance carrier of the loss as soon as it occurs. This needs to be reported verbally, over the phone, via text, email, fax, or in writing. The insurance provider will then acknowledge receiving the report and send you a claim form along with other necessary paperwork as soon as possible. Therefore, it is your responsibility as the policyholder to accurately fill out the claim form by including all relevant information and submit it, together with any supporting documentation, to the insurance company.

Nonetheless, certain claims might not necessitate the police getting involved. Mature life insurance plans, hospital claims, school expenses, and comparable insurance policies are examples of such claims. In certain situations, your insurance provider will request pertinent details from you in order to expedite the processing of your claim.

The insurance company may or may not acknowledge culpability (accept responsibility) after receiving your claim. Your insurance provider will provide you with a discharge voucher to fill out as soon as the claim is approved. By signing the voucher, you agree to the terms of payment that, in compliance with the Insurance Act, will allow your claim to be processed and resolved in sixty days.

The manner in which a claim is resolved varies based on the kind of insurance. For instance a motor claim may require payment of excess by the policyholder before the claim is processed while claims may be settled through repair replacement or cash in lie

If the insurance provider declines to take liability for the loss, they are required to tell you in writing and provide an explanation. If, as a policyholder, you are dissatisfied with the insurance company’s final decision, you may, in accordance with the terms of your policy, request arbitration, contact IRA for assistance, or, as a last resort, seek legal redress in court.
