Persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the country can now ditch the hassle and embrace the ease of self-registration for Disability Certificates through the eCitizen platform.
Aligned with the government’s digitization drive, this user-friendly initiative offers an efficient and hassle-free experience. Launched last year, the self-registration functionality is now fully operational.
Simple Steps, Big Impact
With a smartphone or any smart device, PWDs can access the eCitizen platform and initiate the self-registration process.
All you need is a disability medical assessment report, ID/birth certificate, and a passport-size photo. The National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) portal on eCitizen guides you through the application process.
Upon completion, you’ll receive a confirmation SMS and can instantly download your disability registration certificate directly to your mobile device.
This free and convenient process allows you to print the certificate from eCitizen anytime you need it for accessing services.
Empowering Everyone
Parents and caregivers of minors with disabilities can also leverage the platform for registration, making things easier for families. Even individuals with previous waiting cards can apply for the certificate, retaining their disability numbers.
This online registration eliminates the need for physical disability cards and visits to county disability offices.
To spread awareness, the NCPWD will conduct widespread campaigns about this updated process.
Registering with the NCPWD is crucial for PWDs, opening doors to government aid that improves their lives. Without registration, accessing tailored assistance becomes challenging.
Registration helps the NCPWD design targeted programs addressing the unique needs of PWDs based on disability type, socio-economic needs, and poverty levels. This facilitates targeted allocation of funding.
Registered individuals can access various benefits through the National Development Fund for Persons with disabilities, including assistive devices like wheelchairs, hearing aids, and prosthetics.
Sign language translation and other support services are also available.
The NCPWD empowers PWDs through grants to community and self-help groups, fostering self-sufficiency and income generation. Loan access for business growth is also facilitated.
The NCPWD’s Albinism support program mitigates the impact of harmful sunrays through sunscreen, protective clothing, and comprehensive eye care.
Cash Transfer Program: This program offers financial support to caregivers of individuals with severe disabilities, ensuring their full-time care.
Assistant Director at NCPWD, Francis Anyenda emphasizes the importance of registration for both individuals and organizations.
“Individuals can register with the District Gender & Social Development Officer, providing the necessary documents. Organizations working with PWDs must ensure listing by the NCPWD and provide relevant documentation.”
Collaboration is Key. The NCPWD works with key stakeholders like the Ministry of Health and Social Services department to ensure a smooth registration process.
