In a historic moment for the music streaming industry, The Weeknd, also known as Abel Tesfaye, has achieved a remarkable feat as his hit single ‘Blinding Lights’ becomes the first song to surpass 4 billion streams on Spotify.

This milestone marks a significant shift in the hierarchy of the most-streamed songs on the platform, dethroning Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ from the top spot.

Released in 2019, ‘Blinding Lights’ has not only become a cultural phenomenon but has now secured its place as the all-time most-streamed song on Spotify, boasting over 4.005 billion streams.

The Weeknd’s dominance on the platform is further highlighted by his 2016 hit ‘Starboy’ (featuring Daft Punk), securing the sixth position in the Top 10 most-streamed songs.

Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You,’ which had held the crown as the most-streamed song, now takes the second spot with 3.749 billion streams.

The Top 10 list also features other global sensations, including Lewis Capaldi, Post Malone, Swae Lee, Tones and I, Harry Styles, Drake featuring WizKid and Kyla, The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber, and Post Malone featuring 21 Savage.

Upon achieving this milestone, The Weeknd expressed his gratitude, stating, “I’ll never stop being humbled by anything I create making its way to millions of people let alone billions! I’m so thankful this song makes people feel a way that they keep going back to listen.
