UfarmX, an AgTech company that leverages blockchain technology to empower rural, unbanked and underserved smallholder farmers, and Africa GreenTec, a renowned sustainable energy solutions provider, announce a strategic partnership aimed at supporting women farmers in Senegal grappling with the aftermath of climate change.

Climate change poses a significant threat to global agriculture, exacerbating challenges in productivity and food security. In Africa, where the agricultural sector sustains livelihoods and drives economic growth, the impacts of climate change are acutely felt by smallholder farmers and rural communities. In Senegal, women farmers, constituting 70% of the workforce and responsible for over 80% of food crop production, have especially borne the brunt of these challenges contending with barriers in securing financial resources, diminishing harvests and crop storage limitations.

Through the partnership, UfarmX and Africa GreenTec will launch a pilot program that enables women farmers to access solar-powered storage containers at subsidized rates. Unlike traditional models, which require farmers to purchase containers outright, this initiative offers a more accessible and cost-effective solution, empowering farmers while mitigating climate risks.

“At UfarmX, we recognize the urgent need for collective action to confront the impacts of climate change on agriculture,” says Alexander Zanders, CEO of UfarmX. “Our partnership with Africa GreenTec signifies a shared commitment to innovation, sustainability, and community empowerment. Together, we will work to safeguard livelihoods, preserve ecosystems, and mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.”

Africa GreenTec’s solar-powered solutions offer a sustainable alternative to traditional energy sources, enabling communities to access clean, reliable electricity while reducing carbon emissions and environmental degradation. By integrating renewable energy technologies with UfarmX’s agricultural platform, the partnership will enhance productivity, efficiency, and resilience within Senegal’s farming communities.

“Our collaboration with UfarmX represents a holistic approach to supporting women farmers in Senegal, addressing both the challenges of climate change and post-harvest issues. Together, we are delivering customized solutions that promote sustainable development and empower communities across the agricultural value chain,” says Anna Ndiaye, Managing Director of Africa GreenTec.

This pilot program represents a pivotal stride towards the widespread adoption of scalable solutions that address the evolving needs of farmers across Africa and beyond. UfarmX has collaborated with over 1,400 smallholder farmer partners to date, demonstrating the ability to increase crop yields by an average of 300%. Through community engagement initiatives such as these, UfarmX strives to scale climate action and impact across the continent, creating pathways for agricultural innovation and economic empowerment.

UfarmX is in its seed round, seeking $2 million in funding to further its mission. For more information about UfarmX, or a demo of our platform, please visit https://www.ufarmx.com/ or contact us at [email protected]
