Apple’s new Vision Pro redefined what a VR headset can do. Despite its premium price tag, Apple went above and beyond in its feature set, it’s no surprise it’s first pre-order run got sold out in a matter of a few hours.
According to new reports, it seems Apple is already working on new features to add to the roster. At the moment, the Vision Pro headset can serve as an external display for a Mac, letting you view and control your computer’s screen in a visionOS window. While this is happening, the computer’s built-in display and any external monitors that are connected to it appear black and cannot be used during that time. This feature is available on any Mac running macOS Sonoma, but the maximum display resolution is limited to 3K for Intel-based versions.
The feature can currently be used with only a single Mac display. In other words if you have multiple screens hooked up to your Mac, the Vision Pro will not display them, it will only work with the main screen only.
Luckily, according to analyst Ben Thompson today suggested that Apple has internally tested the ability to use multiple displays.
“I have heard through the grapevine that Vision Pro users at Apple headquarters can project two Mac screens,” said Thompson, in his review of the headset.
It is important to note that while Apple engineers may be working on this feature internally, it is no guarantee that it will make it to the public. It’s common practice to throw a lot of features to the wall in tech companies but only a few usually stick and roll out to the public.
