Kofa and Autopax Partner to Expand Electric Motorcycles Market in Africa

Kofa and Autopax have joined forces to introduce a revolutionary electric motorcycle model designed specifically for the African market.

The strategic partnership, marked by a signing ceremony held on February 15th, 2024, in Nairobi during the Africa Tech Summit held at Sarit Centre, signifies a significant step towards eco-friendly transport solutions in Kenya and beyond.

Aligned with President William Ruto’s Government Green Transport Initiative, aimed at curbing carbon emissions and combating climate change, this collaboration underscores Kenya and Ghana’s commitment to pioneering sustainable mobility solutions across the continent.

The electric motorcycle, meticulously designed and practically tested in Kenya and Ghana, prioritizes durability and efficiency to cater to the demanding conditions of boda-boda services, corporate transportation, and personal use.

Kofa, a Ghana-based company specializing in sustainable energy solutions, will establish a comprehensive battery swap network to support the growing demand for practical electric vehicles across Africa.

Autopax Limited, Kenya’s first locally owned automotive company dedicated to revolutionizing the industry, will oversee the assembly of the electric motorcycles and produce local parts in compliance with Kenyan localization regulations.

Moreover, Autopax will establish a distribution network spanning Kenya and the broader East and Central Africa region, ensuring accessibility and support for customers.

The initiative not only introduces eco-friendly transportation but also stimulates economic growth by creating valuable jobs and fostering skill development within the local community. In adherence to motorcycle regulations, some parts of the motorcycles will be manufactured locally, further bolstering the region’s economy.

The electric motorcycles, set to launch in the fourth quarter of this year, boast impressive specifications, including a rugged frame capable of carrying up to 250kg in load and traveling up to 100km on a full charge of two batteries.

Kofa’s Kore2 Swap & Go network will enhance operational efficiency by facilitating the rapid exchange of vehicle batteries, ensuring continuous service delivery without downtime.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Autopax, Joy Kalua, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “This partnership not only represents a significant leap towards cleaner transport but also demonstrates our commitment to innovative solutions that meet the unique needs of Kenyan businesses and entrepreneurs.”

On his part, Erik Nygard, CEO of Kofa, emphasized the transformative potential of the Kore2 Swap & Go network, stating, “By ensuring that our electric motorcycles are always powered and ready, we are paving the way for a more sustainable and efficient future.”

The agreement between Kofa and Autopax signifies a pivotal moment in Kenya’s journey towards sustainable development and green transportation.

With a shared vision of delivering practical mobility solutions, the partners are poised to revolutionize transportation in Kenya and empower communities across Africa.
