Popular messaging app, Telegram has launched its long-awaited ad platform, built on the TON blockchain.

This innovative move allows channel owners in over 100 countries to monetize their content by displaying ads and receiving 50% of the generated advertising revenue.

Telegram founder, Pavel Durov announced that payments will be made exclusively using Toncoin, the native cryptocurrency of the TON blockchain.

This system echoes their previous approach with Telegram usernames on Fragment, where revenue is shared with users.

Mr Durov believes this “virtuous circle” empowers creators to either cash out their Toncoin or reinvest it in promoting their channels.

While currently only a small percentage of Telegram’s one trillion monthly views are monetized through ads, this platform opens doors for broader content creation possibilities.

With Telegram boasting nearly 200 million daily active users, the potential reach for advertisers is significant.

Mr Durov emphasized the importance of engaging with potential investors in a transparent and organized manner.

“To facilitate this process, Telegram has established a dedicated email address for large investors, those willing to invest $1 million or more, to express their interest in purchasing TON.”

Following the announcement, Mr Durov addressed concerns about Telegram’s own TON holdings, assuring the community of their commitment to decentralization.

The firm plans to sell their surplus Toncoin to long-term investors at a discount, limiting their share to around 10% of the total supply.
