EV firm, ROAM opens a showroom in Nairobi

Kenya’s electric vehicle startup, Roam, has inaugurated its premier electric motorcycle showroom in Nairobi through a collaboration with electric mobility retailer Ridewell.

This marks the debut physical showroom featuring the Roam Air, accessories, a wide selection of after-sales parts, and gear tailored for electric motorcycle enthusiasts.

The partnership aims to amplify Roam’s sales within the Nairobi market.The showroom, offering the Roam Air and other products, provides customers with hands-on interaction and expert guidance from the staff.

Equipped with a removable battery, the Roam Air offers a range between 75km and 100km, emphasizing convenience and sustainability.

Additionally, the Roam showroom offers helmets, riding gear, and spare parts to cater to riders’ needs.

Strategically situated opposite the Safari Park Hotel along the Thika Super Highway, the showroom is now accessible to the public.

Roam has established itself as a key player in electric mobility, boasting the largest electric motorcycle plant in East Africa, with a production capacity of 50,000 motorcycles.

Their electric buses, assembled locally, serve various parts of the city.Furthermore, Roam’s electric motorbikes are available for purchase nationwide, including on credit through a partnership with M-KOPA.

Kenya’s electric mobility sector is expanding, with players like BasiGo collaborating with partners such as Super Metro and Citi Hoppa. Other notable companies include Humming Bird, targeting the hospitality market with Nissan Leafs, as well as Kenya Power and KenGen.

According to the Kenyan government’s projections for 2024, the country is expected to have approximately three million motorbikes.

Without viable alternatives for these riders, who rely on this business for their livelihoods, decarbonizing the atmosphere will pose a considerable challenge.

Operations Sales Manager at Roam, Dionne Getata expressed enthusiasm for opening the flagship store in Nairobi, foreseeing a positive impact on boda boda riders’ quality of life and the acceleration of sustainable urban mobility.

“Nairobi is one of Africa’s most important cities and a city with great potential in which electric mobility is becoming increasingly popular. It is a true pleasure to open our flagship store in the city.”

On his part,Talib Nathani, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ridewell, highlighted the showroom’s significance as more than just a retail space, envisioning it as a hub for boda boda riders to explore, learn, and embrace the excitement of electric mobility, catering to both seasoned riders and newcomers alike.
